2016
In July of 2016, Andrew and Mary Margaret Hanna moved to New Orleans to
pursue theological training at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS). They
joined Immanuel Community Church, a church plant that was meeting in the Tremé
neighborhood at the time, soon after arriving in the city
2017
Andrew and Margaret became more involved in the neighborhood through the
ministry of Immanuel, and in 2017, they moved into the Lafitte Faubourg apartments in
order to host a Bible study and start a youth group.
2018
After completing his education at
NOBTS in 2018, Andrew began working at Phillis Wheatley Community School as a coach
and teacher. The Lord used these ministry opportunities and life experiences to stir up a
desire to plant Harvest Church in the New Orleans area, and other members of
Immanuel expressed interest in joining this new work. Immanuel assessed and affirmed
this desire, and they supported the Hannas as they underwent further assessment and
training through the North American Mission Board.
2020
In the summer of 2020, Immanuel purchased property in the Gentilly
neighborhood and began making plans to construct a permanent gathering place. As the
Hannas continued to discuss the possible location of Harvest Church, the pastors of
Immanuel suggested that Harvest Church be planted in Tremé in order to build on the
foundation that had already been laid through the ministry of Immanuel.
2021
Throughout 2021, the core group who would plant Harvest met together
regularly, served the Tremé neighborhood, and sought to share the gospel with their
neighbors. After gathering for worship services at Phillis Wheatley Community School
multiple times throughout the summer, Harvest Church covenanted as a church with
fifteen members on September 26, 2021.
