Mission: What are we doing?

We exist to glorify God by following Jesus together and faithfully serving our city.

HOW IT ALL BREAKS DOWN

Following Jesus,

From the beginning to the end, Jesus calls us to follow him (Mark 1:17; John 21:19). Picking up our crosses and taking the next step in following Jesus is the very essence of the Christian life. We do not follow Jesus in order to earn God’s favor though; we follow Jesus because he lovingly died in our place and rose from the grave on the third day (Rom. 5:8). God knows that our hearts find true happiness in him, so he graciously calls us to give up everything in order to gain his Son.

Together,

Everyone is called to follow Jesus as an individual, but none of us are called to follow Jesus alone (Rom. 12:4-5). We firmly believe that we need one another’s encouragement, love, and correction in order to finish the race. The local church is the context where Christians follow Jesus together. God uses our relationships within the church to make us more like Christ, and our unity and love is a witness to the world (John 13:25).

Faithfully Serving
our City.

Christians are called to “work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith” (Gal. 6:17). Lord willing, Harvest Church will be a faithful presence in the Tremé-Lafitte neighborhood for years to come. Without the expectation of a pat on the back, we desire to serve one another and our neighbor with our time, talent, and treasure

Our Strategy.

How are we accomplishing the mission?

Gather around the Gospel, Grow in the Gospel, Go with the Gospel
If our strategy sounds redundant, you are hearing correctly. In the words of Tim Keller, “The gospel is not just the ABCs but the A to Z of the Christian life.” The rhythms of Harvest Church revolve around the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection because any other alternative is insufficient to bear the weight of a church.

GATHER around the Gospel.

We gather every week in order to sing the gospel, hear the gospel preached, and even taste and see the gospel through the Lord’s supper and baptism. We refuse to neglect the gathering because the simple act of showing up is one way that God stirs us up to love and good works (Heb. 10:24-25).

GROW in the Gospel.

We believe that true spiritual growth flows from applying the gospel to all of our lives. As we dive deeper and deeper into God’s grace in Jesus, we are conformed to his image (2 Cor. 3:18). Speaking the truth in love to one another, every member bears the responsibility of helping Harvest Church grow in the gospel (Eph. 4:15-16).

GO with the Gospel.

God has given us the good news of Jesus so that we might be witnesses wherever we go (Acts 1:8). Every member of Harvest has the privilege of taking the gospel to where they live, work, and play because God has an eternal purpose in our everyday lives.
